Ulster Unionists lodge papers with appeal to maximise vote

Ulster Unionist Party candidates Jo-Anne Dobson, Doug Beattie MC and Kyle Savage lodged their nomination papers to contest the Assembly Election at Banbridge Electoral Office on Thursday morning.

As in previous years The Ulster Unionist Party has chosen three candidates to contest the election in the Upper Bann constituency and are again encouraging vote management by centring a candidate in each of the major towns and across the wider rural villages and areas.

Mrs Dobson said: “I have had the privilege of representing the people of my home constituency, Upper Bann, as an MLA since May 2011 and have a proven track record of working hard to get the job done.

“I was born and brought up in Banbridge and live on our family farm in Waringstown. As your local representative, I continue to fight hard every day for a better health service, to back local business, defend our schools and colleges and champion Organ Donation at Stormont.

“As a strong and united Ulster Unionist team we go into May’s Assembly election seeking the support of the people for a better and a stronger Northern Ireland.”

Father of three Kyle Savage, and a cancer survivor said: “I’m a dairy farmer from Donaghcloney, husband to Mary and father to Joyann, Felicity and Isabella. I am heavily involved in the local community, and am totally committed to regenerating our town centres and encouraging local business.

“As a cancer survivor, I won’t relent until NHS funding gets to where it is most needed - on the front line. I want to see fair sharing of profits across the food chain and will work to secure a ‘fair price regulator’ and consumer champion for the agriculture industry in Northern Ireland.

“I also pledge to work hard to secure more nursery places locally and to work towards ensuring better facilities in which our children can learn and grow.”

Doug Beattie MC said: “As a soldier, an Ulster Unionist Councillor and now an Upper Bann Assembly candidate I have been clear about what I stand for.

“I believe in equality, social and economic regeneration as well as an effective health service that is free at the point of delivery and values those who work within it.

“If elected I will work to see more integrated education, a better understanding of cultural and identity issues and an acceptance of difference. With selfless commitment and respect for others I will work tirelessly for you electorate.”

The Assembly Elections takes place on Thursday, May 5. Polls open from 7am-10pm.
