Refugees and asylum seekers sought for cathartic theatre

REFUGEES and asylum seekers who have suffered violence, mental health issues, forced exile, poverty or sectarianism are being hunted for a cathartic theatre project in Londonderry.

The Playhouse Theatre of Witness Programme is seeking personal stories from residents of Northern Ireland who have either sought or offered refuge or safe haven as it creates its upcoming production called ‘Sanctuary’ in November.

The performers will include refugee and asylum seekers and providers.

‘Sanctuary’ will also highlight moments of ordinary and humble peace building, forgivenenss, and/or reconciliation.

Theatre of Witness is interested in hearing from anyone who would like to share their story, either in person, or in writing. To do so contact Teya Sepinuck at [email protected] .

All submissions will remain confidential as an integral part of creating ‘Sanctuary’, the project will also hold two special workshops exploring themes of refuge and peacebuilding at The Playhouse on Thursday April 11 from 7pm-9pm and Saturday April 13 from 9.30am- 11am.
