700 shared houses in Claudy will helpbuild united society

A NUMBER of shared housing schemes in the North West will help build a united community here.

Housing Minister Nelson McCausland said a range of schemes have gone ahead in the North West. Although they pre-date OFMDFM’s ‘Building a United Community’ document, he says they will help deliver its goals.

Under DSD’s ‘Shared Neighbourhood Programme 2008-2011’ 800 NIHE shared housing units were developed in Sion Mills and 700 units were developed in Claudy.

Under the ‘Shared Communties Programme 2011-2014’ there are 700 units listed at Strathfoyle and 200 listed at Drumachose Park in Limavady. The Minister said: “All of these schemes had been selected prior to the Together: Building a United Community announcement. The Housing Executive considers that all schemes in the social housing development programme have shared future potential, however no schemes have been proposed.”
