Two women facing a series of charges

Rose Ellen McDonagh, (49) whose address was listed as Iveagh Bungalows, Rathfriland, appeared in the dock facing three charges of criminal damage and a count of burglary with intent to cause unlawful damage.

Appearing via video link after breaking her bail conditions, was 35-year-old Lorraine Myles with an address in Dundalk.

The mother of three who made an emotional plea for bail to allow her to attend her son’s first confirmation, is facing charges of burglary with intent to cause unlawful damage, possession of CS spray and two counts of criminal damage.

It is alleged that McDonagh entered as a trespasser a house at Wrights Park in the town on April 6.

She is further charged with damaging a list of items belonging to Noel Rodgers including a sofa, a fish tank, Toshiba television, seven picture frames, an electric shower, two lampshades, two portable televisions and a Sky box.

McDonagh is also charged with damaging windows belonging to Noel Rodgers.

A solicitor said the accused has a bail address in Newry, and District Judge Mr Paul Copeland imposed a number of conditions including no contact with Noel Rodgers, a ban on entering Rathfriland and a curfew from midnight to 7am.

She was ordered to return to court on June 5.

Solicitor for the co-accused Lorraine Myles, Mr McGuigan told the court that she had been granted bail but was unable to raise the £300 cash surety.

He said she was pleading with the court to grant her bail to allow her to attend her son’s confirmation.

Mr Copeland said the required £300 was a “modest” amount of money and the court had concerns about her living outside the jurisdiction.

Asked why she was in Rathfriland, Mr Copeland was told Myles had been living with her co-accused and the injured party.

Mr Copeland was told Myles was not a member of travelling community but was “associated with them.”

Mr Copeland asked for her son’s name and the church where the service was taking place.

He said that once this information was confirmed to him in writing he would consider an application for compassionate bail at next Thursday’s Court.

Myles is charged with entering as a trespasser a house at Wright’s Park Rathfriland, possession of CS spray, and damaging property including a window belonging to Noel Rodgers.
