John Reid, Meeting Street, Dromore, was fined £200 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for obstructing a police officer on August 3 this year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that the attention of the police was drawn to an address in Dromore and they went to Meeting Street.

There was no reply when they knocked on the door but on looking through the window they could see movement.

Police gained access through a rear door and as they were going in Reid blocked their way.

He also attempted to push an officer.

The defendant was arrested and the other person, a woman, was arrested as well.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said the woman in question was an on-off partner of Reid for the last 13 years.

He explained they had been drinking together and Reid was unaware she was the subject of an arrest warrant in Derbyshire.

Mr Ingram added that the defendant, fuelled by alcohol, tried to block the police.

He said Reid was now not taking alcohol and was attending a local religious group.
