Travelling Seconds see off determined Armagh

Armagh Thirds 1

Dromore Ladies Seconds 2

DROMORE Ladies Seconds travelled to Ardmore in Armagh to play the city’s Thirds.

The two teams had met earlier this year in the cup which Dromore had won. The girls knew that this would be a tough match as the Armagh side would want revenge.

However, as Dromore has not lost one match this season the girls were determined to maintain their winning streak as they have their sights on the league title.

Both teams came out hard but it was Armagh that took possession spreading the ball wide to the winger. The winger soon found herself surrounded by the Dromore defence who regained possession.

Both teams outplayed each other in midfield making it very difficult for either team to gain possession and to gain ground.

Armagh broke through the Dromore defence as the centre forward kicked the ball into the circle which was missed by the umpire. This led to a one on one situation with the Armagh player and the Dromore keeper.

The Armagh player took the opportunity to skilfully chip the ball into the back of the net. Furious at this mistake the Dromore side had to remain level headed and work hard to regroup.

At half time Dromore losing 1–0 was not the score they had hoped for but they were by no means out of the game.

On the starting whistle of the second half Dromore pushed the Armagh midfielders back into their 25. Capitalising on this Dromore’s formation was superb.

Armagh found themselves struggling to clear the ball. Dromore’s Kate Lutton found Shannon Brush on the right wing. Quick thinking by Brush saw her beat her player and she found herself one on one with the Armagh keeper. Brush made no mistake as she struck the ball into the back of the net to make the score 1-1.

Dromore could do no wrong. The defence mopped up any through balls and supported the attacking play by creating options from one side of the pitch to the other.

Robyn McKee worked tirelessly in mid field causing problems for Armagh as she gained a number of short corners.

Lutton struck the corner just wide of the post. This was a warning side to Armagh that the Dromore girls were not leaving without a win.

The second goal finally came through another short corner. Lutton made no mistake this time as she unleashed a fire ball into the back of the Armagh net.

This was a well deserved win for the Dromore girls on their fight to the top of the league.
