Mr Raymond Pollock described Christopher as a ‘highly respected’ and ‘gifted’ pupil.

He said the first thoughts of everyone at the Academy were with the McAlinden family.

It’s thought Christopher fell off a bridge at the lines around 7.30pm on Wednesday and was then struck by a train travelling from Newry to Bangor.

He was the son of David and Dympna McAlinden from Magheralin. He had a sister, Lauren.

A pupil at Banbridge Academy he had formerly lived in the Craigavon area.

Mr Pollock also said three counselling rooms and quiet room had been made available at the Academy for students and paid tribute to staff at the school and the SELB for their sensitive support.
