Town set to celebrate St Patrick’s Day

Banbridge District Council hosts its annual St Patrick’s Day Celebration in Solitude Park on Saturday 15 March and is promising fun for all.

The craic kicks off at 2pm and runs until 4pm and will feature a host of performances and activities guaranteed to get you in the mood for a bit of a jig and a hoolie!

Fabulous folk rock group Blackthorn will delight the crowds with their fantastic foot tapping fusion of top class traditional music, featuring influences from Scottish, Ulster-Scots and Irish roots.

Blackthorn along with world renowned Bulgarian musicians, Virtuoso Ivanov, will accompany Banbridge Community Orchestra in performing a scintillating selection of marvellous musical pieces.

To put a spring in your step there will be traditional dance performances from The Bann Rhythm Irish Dancers and Closkelt Highland Dancers.

This part of the day will also feature the chance for everyone to join in a community ceili.

Other activities on the day will include face painting, balloon modellers, arts & crafts workshops, an e-music making workshop, circus performers, fun inflatables and amusement rides suitable for children and young people plus a superb selection of miniature farm animals and mini carriage rides.

One of the highlights of the event will be a carnival art display, showcasing the artwork of local youth groups, including Ballydown Girl Guides, Dromore Youth For Christ, Brookfield &Edenderry Community Association, Banbridge Youth Centre with St. Teresa’s Youth Group and Banbridge Good Relations Youth Forum.

This display will take the form of a procession by the young people which will depart from Bannside Church, Castlewellan Road at 2.20pm and arrive at the stage in Solitude Parkat 2.30pm.

This is the culmination of a Good Relations themed art project, facilitated by a professional local artist, enabling participants to learn in greater detail about themselves as individuals, their community and others.

Admission to this super celebration of culture, which is supported by Banbridge District Council Good Relations Programme is free and everyone from the district and beyond is warmly welcome to come along and have a craic-ing good time.
