Town companyto the fore ahead of golf’s NI Open

Grass-seed company James Coburn & Son, which specialises in advising and providing seed mixtures, fertilisers and associated products to golf clubs, sports grounds, lawns and amenity sites across Ireland, is helping to make sure the course is in tip-top condition for world-class golfing talent.

Coburn’s provides the grass-seed and fertilisers to maintain the course at Galgorm Castle.

The company is working in partnership with the club’s head greenkeeper, David Snoddy, to ensure conditions are perfect when the high profile European Challenge Tour tees off on August 28.

“We have a longstanding partnership with Galgorm Castle Golf Club, which is playing host to the Northern Ireland Open for the second year running,” said Willaim Cartmill of Coburn’s.

“The course needs to be in prime condition for such a prestigious tournament which, building on last year’s success, is sure to be a hugely positive event for the whole of Northern Ireland.

“Whilst the NI Open will showcase our world-class golfing talent, we’re hoping the fabulous course will also remind spectators from across the globe why this part of the world is called the Emerald Isle.”

Established in 1850 by Banbridge farmer James Coburn, Coburn’s now employs 10 full and part-time staff and supplies some of Ireland’s top golf courses and sports grounds with ‘made to measure’ grass-seed mixes.

“We have been working with Galgorm Castle Golf Club since day one,” said William. “In fact, I remember delivering the course fertiliser during its very first week.

“We have watched the course turn into a world class location and we’re very proud to work with Head Greenkeeper David Snoddy and his team to make sure it remains in top condition,in particular in advance of such a major tournament as the NI Open.”
