Tough going for Dromore

THE Dromore senior team were no match when they were visitors to Banbridge in their final game of the season going down by thirty five shots and gaining one point.

Rink 1: T Wilson, D Graham, SG Malcomson, J McKenny.

Rink 2: W Paylor, K Aiken, D Shanks, A Johnston.

Rink 3: H Hylands, W Clinghan, D Burns, F Cranney.

Rink 4: S Jess, G Dawson, R Greer, G Clinghan.

The seniors found themselves nine shots in arrears after five ends with Cranney and Clinghan both one ahead. Johnston was all square with McKenny 11 in the red.

The seniors were under the cosh at the halfway stage, being 23 behind with Clinghan the only rink ahead by seven. Johnston was down by five, Cranney was eight down and McKenny was finding the going tough at 17 behind.

Twenty-six was the margin at three quarter stage. Clinghan was now a single to the good, Cranney was 13 down, Johnston was trailing by eight but what a fight back by McKenny who was now only six in arrears.

In the last six ends the only good point was the big fight back by McKenny to complete a winning card by one. Clinghan lost in the final ends, going down by three; Cranney ended up 19 down with Johnston beaten by 14 at the end.

This game was the first time that the E Cranney Trophy was played for between the Bann and Dromore. Fergal Cranney presented it in memory of his late father to the Banbridge President, Harry Arlow.

In the final home game against 1st Ballymacarrett the Dromore junior team kept up their good home form to take six points in a 21 shot victory

Rink 1: G Beggs, E Walker, A Clinghan, G Ervine.

Rink 2: J McCullough, J Topping, I Houston, A Sudlow.

Rink 3: T Ogle, T Ledlie, T Gribben, T Sudlow.

Rink 4: N Lindsay, G McDowell, J Noddings, H Maxwell.

With both teams going for full points a close game was expected and when the five end score was taken the home team were a shot in arrears.

There was a funny start on Ervine's rink with George scoring a five on the first end but on the second and third ends he lost two fives to be down by two at five ends. A Sudlow was ahead by four, Maxwell was a single up with T Sudlow four down.

This stung the home team and at the halfway stage showed four to the good. The scoring on Ervine’s rink had slowed down with Ervine now three in arrears. A Sudlow and T Sudlow were both three ahead Maxwell still one up.

At three quarters stage Dromore had opened up a lead of 19 thanks to the rinks of A Sudlow, who was now 12 ahead and H Maxwell was up by seven.T Sudlow and Ervine were both all square.

With Dromore wanting to finish their season on a high they made sure that the visitors went home with only one point.

A Sudlow, with J McCullough playing well at lead, finished ahead by 12; Maxwell finished strongly to be 13 ahead; T Sudlow just got home with a single to the good after a hard struggle against a very good skip while Ervine found it very hard and went down by five
