Told witness '˜he would get her shot'

When he was brought into court to be sentenced a 20-year-old man told a female witness that he was going to get her shot.

Daniel McConville, whose address was given as Dingwell Park, Lurgan, admitted making a threat to kill a female on May 14 last year and disorderly behaviour at Newry Courthouse.

Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday that at 2pm in court two at Newry Courthouse McConville was brought up from the cells to be sentenced.

He shouted from the dock at one of the victims: “You are going to get shot” and “I’m going to get you shot.”

McConville then struggled with several prison officers and continued to shout abuse, shouting at the judge to ‘f—k off’ before being taken away by court staff.

A barrister representing the defendant said that his client served 28 days consecutively to his sentence for contempt of court for what was an ‘emotional outburst’ from him.

For making a threat to kill McConville was sentenced to six months in prison while a concurrent three month term was imposed for disorderly behaviour.

Judge King set bail at £500 for the defendant to appeal against the sentence but remanded him in custody pending appeal.
