There’s ‘Another Dimension’ to gallery

‘ANOTHER Dimension’ is the latest exhibition to open at the multi award-winning F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio.

From Saturday 29 January 2011 visitors to the gallery can view the works of some 39 esteemed artists associated with the Seacourt Print Workshop based in Bangor. The majority of new artworks featuring in the exhibition are for sale.

This unique exhibition features some wonderful examples of fine art created by a variety of printmaking processes such as etching, monotype, screen print, new digital processes and lithography. The works range from a printed model aluminum ‘train’ to a screen printed cape inspired by the work of F.E. McWilliam.

Robert Peters, Director of Seacourt Print Workshop, explained the rationale behind the ‘Another Dimension’ exhibition. “Most artists who are skilled in printmaking only have to deal with two dimensions but, for this exhibition, our artists have moved into the world of three dimensions, which can be likened to stepping over a threshold from the abstract to the concrete,” he said.

“It was somewhat challenging but thoroughly enjoyable to see each work come to life. Hopefully, visitors to the gallery will enjoy viewing the works on display and appreciate the complexity of thought and process behind their creation.”

Arts Council of Northern Ireland Head of Visual Arts, Dr Suzanne Lyle, accepted the invitation to open the exhibition.

Speaking at the opening, Dr Lyle said: “I am very impressed with the creative works in this exhibition, as it really showcases the innovative approaches and ingenuity of the Seacourt Print Workshop artists.

“This is the first time that the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio has dedicated an exhibition to the art of printmaking. ‘Another Dimension’ promises to be as popular as past exhibitions. I am delighted to learn that it will be complemented with a lecture and workshop programme during which artists from Seacourt Print Workshop will share their knowledge and expertise with others.”

Council Chairman Councillor Jim McElroy thanked the Seacourt Print Workshop artists for creating the many interesting works for the exhibition.

He also thanked members of the gallery’s Programme Committee, which includes Dr Lyle, for their valued contribution in helping to plan an exciting and innovative programme of exhibitions for the gallery since it opened in 2008.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland also got a special mention for funding some of the current exhibition’s works through its Support for Individual Artists programme.

Details of the lecture and workshop programme can be obtained from the gallery by telephoning 4062 3322 or visiting the gallery’s website at www.femcwilliam.com

The exhibition will run at the gallery until Sunday 15 May 2011. The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 5pm. Admission is free.
