'˜The Simpsons' predicted Trump victory 16 years ago
Donald Trump's presidential victory should come as no surprise to anyone - after all, US television series '˜The Simpsons' predicted it 16 years ago.
In a bizarre incident of art imitating life, the episode called ‘Bart to the Future’ was first aired back in March 2000.
In the episode, Lisa Simpson becomes President of the USA and tells her staff that she has inherited a “budget crunch from President Trump”.
‘The Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening told The Guardian: “We predicted that he would be president back in 2000 – but [Trump] was of course the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that’s still true. It’s beyond satire.”
Republican candidate Donald Trump won the election to become the 45th U.S. President in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
