TEEN IS SHOT THREE TIMES BY ATTACKERS

A CRAIGAVON teenager has survived a gun attack during which he was shot three times.

The 17-year-old was set upon by a gang wielding nail-studded batons on Monday night (December 12).

The man was shot three times during the attack, which took place at around 10.30pm in Drumbeg.

It was reported that he received two gunshot wounds to the arm and one to the leg.

He also sustained injuries to his head and body.

The victim was taken to Craigavon Hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly described the attack as “unjustifiable”.

“Attacks such as this had no place in society during the Troubles and they have no place in society now,” she said.

“Nothing can justify this class of violence and, as a member of a party that has always condemned violence of any kind, I cannot condemn this attack enough.

“Anyone with information should pass it to the police, who must work more closely with communities to ensure that attacks such as this do not take place.”

Sinn Fein’s Tommy O’Connor described the shooting as “abhorrent”.

“We totally condemn this incident,” said Cllr O’Connor.

“There is absolutely no justification for this attack, and the people who carried it out did so only to serve their own interests.”

Police are investigating the incident and have asked anyone who has any information or who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact Mahon Road CID on 0845 600 8000.
