At a recent meeting of the Council’s Leisure and Development Committee, the members heard that the council would like to increase the swimming lesson programme from 530 pupils per week to around 700, with the intention of increasing the income generated for the council.

It is proposed that the main pool programme will be reconfigured at Banbridge Leisure Centre within the current public opening hours.

The income generation potential to Banbridge District Council from expanding the programme has been said to be “considerable” and is estimated at £30,200 per year.

The council is proposing that the Leisure Centre Officers will continue to prioritise pool space for Council operated swimming lessons and it is proposed that the council programme capacity is increased on Thursday afternoons.The new programme is expected to be implemented in mid-February 2015.
