Suspended sentences for drug offences

Dean Robert Currie (35), whose address was given to the court as Russell Drive, admitted unlawful possession of cannabis, cannabis resin, Fluoromethcathinone and Diazepam on January 20 last year.

The court heard the drugs were found during a search of the defendant’s home and the total value of them was estimated at £35.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said that his client had co-operated fully with the policy.

He explained that since the date of these offences Currie had spent a number of months in custody.

Mr Ingram added that the defendant had a history of drugs problems on his record but was now trying to turn his life around.

He had signed up with a recruitment agency and was actively seeking employment.

He said that Currie had been attending with probation and there have been no issues.

Deputy District Judge Anne Marshall told Currie she would give him the chance to continue to stay out of trouble.

She added that the only reason she was not sending him to prison immediately was that he was on probation and it was going well.

For each of the four offences she imposed a three month custodial term, suspended for two years.
