Messages of support have been flooding in for Jay’s parents, Fiona and Robert, through their Facebook page ‘Jay Quigley - The smiling superhero’.

In a post on the page, the family say that their only request for the funeral service is that only the family wear black.

They said: “We want to see as many bright colours, superheroes, onesies how ever you remember my little smiler just please we want a celebration for jays send off. Bring bubbles balloons and we will set them off at graveside.

Only family flowers.”

After a private family service in Portrush, the funeral will take place at Murdocks Funeral Home in Coleraine at 1pm.

There will be speakers outside to share the service with those who want to pay their respects.
