Currently, the Tesco Extra at Bentrim Road opened its doors in 1999 and ranked in the top three Tesco stores in Northern Ireland.

Corporate Affairs Manager for Tesco Northern Ireland, Richard Holligan said:

“Works inside the unit are well underway and we’re looking forward to a mid-summer opening of the new Tesco Express in Lisburn.

“The store will create approximately 20 new full and part time jobs for local people and also provide another opportunity for local suppliers to sell their products.”

A Tesco Express is a small convenience store that you can use it for all your essential grocery shopping or top-up shopping, from bread rolls to toilet rolls.

Express stores often include small in-store bakeries and have services like cash machines for added convenience.

The Express stores help people to shop closer to their homes or workplace and saving them from so many trips to the supermarket, according to Mr Holligan. “We will be able to confirm the exact date of opening in the next couple of weeks,” he said.

Bentrim Road Tesco was refurbished two years ago and currently employs 450 staff at the store.

The Lisburn store already stocks produce from local companies such as WD Irwin and Sons, Wilson’s Country, Gilfresh, Dale Farm, Tayto and Coca Cola Hellenic (the local bottling company for the Coca Cola brand, based in Lisburn).

The Lisburn store also updated its IT system to ensure an even more efficient experience at checkout.
