Storm Gertrude sparks wind, snow ice and rain warnings

The Met Office has officially named the weather front due to hit these shores on Friday '˜Gertrude'.

Heavy rain, high winds, snow and ice are set to cause disruption, with amber ‘be prepared’ and yellow ‘be aware’ warnings issued for both the UK and Ireland.

Winds could reach 80mph in areas affected by the amber warnings and separate warnings for snow and ice could mean misery for travellers, with the Met Office warning of tricky driving conditions.

Warnings for high winds, snow, ice and heavy rain have been issued for parts of Northern Ireland

The Met Office warn travelers in affected areas to be aware of the potential for disruption to travel.

Met Éireann have also issued a orange status warning ahead of Gertrude’s arrival
