Stole six hats from Limavady shop

A LONDONDERRY man who stole six hats from a Limavady shop has been conditionally discharged for two years.

Stuart Cloete (22) of Rushcroft Park in the city was also convicted of possession of a Class B drug, in charge of a vehicle whilst unfit and disorderly behaviour relating to the same date. A PPS solicitor told the court police attended the carpark of Tescos supermarket Limavady on April 14 2010 where they observed an intoxicated Cloete attempting to get into a blue Peugeot car. When police searched the 22-year-old they found six hats and a small amount of cannabis. The prosecution added that when questioned at the scene Cloete became aggressive and "had his fists cupped". Under police interview he admitted stealing the hats from Tesco to the value of 34.00. An evidential breath test showed 72mcg of alcohol in a 100ml of breath. A defence solicitor said that on the day in question Cloete had been drinking "a lot" and suffered from some mental health problems. He added that the cannabis "totally consisted of personal use" and that the 22-year-old had attended the vehicle in the car park to "lock it up for the night". District Judge Paul Copeland fined the him 100 and imposed a destruction order on the drugs. He also disqualified him from driving for eight months with a 100 fine. Cloete was also conditionally discharged for disorderly behaviour.
