Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said the road in question was quite a straight road leading out of the village.

He explained that his client had several motoring offences and already had nine points endorsed on his licence.

Mr Downey asked the court to deal with the defendant in a way which would not necessitate him having to re-sit his test, by imposing a short disqualification.

He added that Israel had changed his life around entirely over the last number ofyears.

His vehicle was off the road because of high insurance premiums.

Deputy District Judge Terence Dunlop said that the defendant had a lengthy disqualification in the pas, but, he added, he was persuaded to give him a chance to turn things around more quickly with a short period of suspension.

He fined the defendant £100, ordered him to pay a £15 offender’s levy and disqualified him from driving for three months.
