Specsavers Coleraine bakes for Africa

Danielle has volunteered with the charity Raleigh International to travel to Tanzania in March next year. Along with 16 other volunteers from throughout the UK, Danielle will be supporting local young people as they try to begin and build small businesses.

Danielle explained: “I have a very comfortable life with a lovely job and a great career ahead of me.

“But I’m only 23 and have had an increasing desire to get out and see a bit of the world whilst doing something really worthwhile at the same time.

“I was attracted to Raleigh International because it focuses on young people, helping them to realise their potential and to build sustainable lives. I will be hosted by a local family in Tanzania during my stay.

“I’ve been told that there will be no electricity, no phone connections, a diet of rice and daily washing in the river but I’m sure that the warm welcome from the local community will more than make up for the lack of home comforts!”

Judith Ball, store director Coleraine Specsavers added: “We’re very proud of Danielle’s decision to go to Africa.

“Whilst the majority of her trip is funded she is responsible for raising £800 herself and to that end all of her colleagues are helping to run a cake sale in-store on Thursday 22nd December.

“We would encourage all of our customers and local shoppers to drop in and help support this very worthy cause.”
