Special service to mark the Bluestone 30th anniversary

A SPECIAL service to mark the 30th anniversary of the First Bluestone BB company will be held in Bluestone Methodist Church on Sunday, January 27, at 7pm.

Founded in January 1983, it was the first to be formed in what was the then centenary year of the BB movement.

Founder chaplain, Rev Norman Fox, and founder captain, Mr Richard Maze, amongst others, will be participating in the special service, after which memorabilia and refreshments will be on offer in the church hall.

The service is open to all who wish to attend and the company is making a special request for as many former members to attend as possible and help spread the word.

Thursday, January 31 - Company Section under 16 four-a-side indoor football competition at Knocknamuckley Church of Ireland, 7.30pm.

Saturday, February 2 - Battalion Prayer Breakfast at St John’s Church of Ireland, 7.30am.

Anchor Boys (P1-P4), and their leaders, from across the Northern Ireland Region, are joining together to celebrate 125 years of the Boys’ Brigade in Ireland on Saturday, Apil 27, from 10am until 4pm at a special activity event in W5, Odyssey, Belfast. In addition the first 600 registered entrants will enjoy a supplementary show, that will include puppet ministry, worship craft and more. Local section leaders have the necessary forms and details.

After over 50 years of Christian witness and outreach, the BB headquarters at Rathmore House have been sold. Many local current staff and former members will have fond memories of the grand old house which in later years has been in constant need of repair.

A special thanksgiving service was held at the venue on December 30 when Lurgan and District President, Dr Mark Hancock, amongst others, represented the Lurgan Battalion.

Companies will have been notified of the necessary Supervisor Training Course at the new BB Headquarters on Saturday, January 19, from 9.30am until 4pm. This is a must for those staff wishing to take boys on hill-walking expeditions and comes with a nationally recognised record of attendance.

Battalion sporting competitions results were: U14 Pool winner, Kyle Rea (1st Bluestone); U18 Snooker winner, Dillon Todd (1st Bluestone); Junior Section indoor five-a-side, 1st Lurgan; Under 14 indoor five-a-side, 1st Knocknamuckley/1st Bluestone.

The table tennis competition has now been rescheduled for Friday, March 1, at 7.30pm.
