Special jubilee lunch

A LONDONDERRY charity is holding a special lunch next month during the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to get as many people as possible to share an act of community and friendship.

The Big Jubilee Lunch will take place between 1pm and 5pm on June 3 and will be hosted by the All Saints Caring Association (ASCA) at 20 Limavady Road, Londonderry

A spokesperson for ASCA explained: “The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

“Last year on Sunday June 5 the best part of two million people took part in 2012.

“This year, The Big Lunch falls on the same weekend as The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Sunday, June 3 and as announced by Buckingham Palace the Big Jubilee Lunch will be a part of the main programme of events over the central weekend of the Diamond Jubilee.”

ASCA will be hosting the first of many Big Lunch events in their new community hall, currently being constructed on the site of the former Stewart Memorial Hall.

Uniquely, the Big Lunch will be serving a delicious “Coronation Curry Lunch” carefully prepared beforehand at well-known local Restaurant Brown’s, followed by scrumptious desert, and, lots of fun games during the afternoon for all the family to enjoy.
