Special anniversary celebrates women

Women’s World, which is delivered by Community Intercultural Programme, has benefitted hundreds of women and their families over the past decade - and some of these women took centre stage on Tuesday.

“I was in a very difficult place before I joined Women’s World three years ago,” said Elizabete Patricia, who is originally from Portugal.

“This project has changed my outlook on life and I invite others to participate in the parent and toddler group, exercise classes and personal development opportunities. Today is an amazing day. It’s great to be with people who have inspired me to reach for my dreams.”

The 10th anniversary coincided with International Women’s Day, and provided an ideal moment to reflect on the achievements of the past and focus on future opportunities.

Special guests included Lord Mayor Darryn Causby and David Simpson MP, both of whom commended the work of Hetty Smith, who manages Women’s World, and remarked on the important role of women in society. They encouraged the 110 attendees to be aspirational and take their place as equal citizens at all levels of society.
