SlurryKat comes to the rescue in Norway

Local firm SlurryKat helped farmers extinguish wild fires which spread across the island of Freya in Norway.

Over 400 residents were evacuated from their homes after the fires broke out on Wednesday February 19 and 150 crew from Norwegian emergency services worked around the clock to gain control of the flames.

As helicopters carrying barrels of water flew over the fire area, on the ground, some local farmers on the island aided the emergency services by transporting water with their SlurryKat tankers.

SlurryKat, based on the Lowtown Road near Lawrencetown, is one of Northern Ireland’s leading manufacturers of slurry-handling equipment and its equipment is currently available in Norway as well as 20 other countries worldwide.

Garth Cairns, CEO at SlurryKat said: “The local farmers and contractors in Norway played an integral part of extinguishing the fires.

“I am glad we have so many tankers in operation in Norway”.
