Sky at night wonders viewed through a telescopic lens

The event was hosted by Craigavon council in partnership with BBCNI and it also involved the Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club who brought their purpose-built trailer complete with working amateur radio stations that made contact both locally and into Europe and North America.

The club also demonstrated a simulated Mars surface vehicle and the time delay of sending a command from earth until it is received by the vehicle. This proved a big success with the younger visitors who queued up to get a chance to control the vehicle by typing commands into the computer.

All in all the Stargazing Live event proved to be another great success for Craigavon area, and Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club are looking forward being involved in many local education and public events during 2013.

The club also took part in a number of preceding events including working with the BBC and Lismore Comprehensive School. As part of a science and media project a high altitude helium balloon was launched from Marble Arch Caves in Fermanagh to capture various meteorlogical data and to be tracked on its journey and when it fell back to earth.
