Sinn Fein's Brendan Curran steps down from Council

The Craigavon man has stepped aside from the Council and party colleague Kevin Savage from Laurencetown has been coopted in his place.

The 66-year-old said he had planned to step aside once the new council had got up and running.

The veteran politician had been sitting on the shadow ABC Council and said he felt it was his duty to join the new council to see through its formation in the interests of continuity.

However Mr Curran has been plagued with health issues for many years and he felt this was an opportune time to step aside.

He said he would continue to work for the party but said: “It is time to slow down.”

He sang the praises of the new Cllr Savage who he said was a good local person with many family connections to Banbridge and Laurencetown.
