Simpson joins senior citizen safety campaign

UPPER Bann MP David Simpson has pledged his support to the joint Home Office and Age Concern campaign to help older people feel safer in their homes.

The DUP MP who signed up to the motion tabled at the House of Commons said: “I was pleased to sign up to this recent House of Commons call drawing attention to the joint Home Office and Age Concern campaign to help older people actually take measures to feel secure in their homes.

People need to feel safe and need to be protected in their own homes. I have in the past highlighted initiatives such as the Handyvan service provided by Help the Aged/Age Concern. Right here in Upper Bann we have seen several mini crime sprees where there were the homes of elderly or vulnerable people were broken into.

“The criminals responsible for such attacks deliberately target vulnerable members of the community, particularly elderly people who find it difficult to defend themselves and their property.

“Such criminal themselves need to taken off the streets and handed down the kind of stiff sentences that would be appropriate.

“It is important to me that elderly or vulnerable in Banbridge are helped to feel safer in their own homes.”
