Shared Memories at police families event

THE Wounded Police and Families Association (WPFA) recently launched their first booklet entitled ‘Shared Memories’ at Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

Attending the event, hosted by UUP MLA Ross Hussey, Upper Bann Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson endorsed the book as a “proud record and testament to the service, dedication and sacrifice of the brave men and women of the RUC.”

After the launch event Mrs Dobson said: “Members of the Association from across Northern Ireland have compiled this booked to highlight their very personal and harrowing stories of, in their own words, ‘Humour, Honour and Horror.’

“It is fitting that this booklet has been published in the ninetieth anniversary year of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (George Cross).

“It was an honour to attend the event and to hear and read the very moving contributions which make up the book and to meet some of the contributors.

“The motto of the Association is ‘Healing through caring, recognition and justice’ and I believe that the publication of this booklet will go a long way to achieving this and also highlighting the legacy of RUC officers injured by terrorism in Northern Ireland.

“The sacrifices of the brave men and women of the WPFA have led directly to the safer society which we live in today. Many of their members have carried serious physical injury for over thirty years and we owe it them to ensure that their voices are heard loud and clear and that these sacrifices are not forgotten.”

In attendance were WPFA members from Upper Bann, Nigel Lockhart and Mrs Georgia Pollock, wife of Ronnie Pollock from Banbridge and the Hon Secretary Hazel McCready from Lurgan.

The Wounded Police and Families publication – ‘Shared Memories’ is available from Jo-Anne Dobson’s constituency office at 18 Rathfriland Street, Banbridge, and although free of charge, she said a small donation to help the on-going work of the Association would be greatly appreciated.
