The annual horticultural competition encourages cities, towns and villages right across Northern Ireland to look their best, boosting civic pride through beautiful plant and floral displays.

Now in its 36th year, the competition attracted 178 entries representing 25 council areas, local community groups, businesses, bus and train stations.

Councillor Joan Baird congratulated the local villages saying: “Well done to Scarva and Seapatrick for keeping the areas clean and tidy.

“The good work of our outdoor staff has given Banbridge the chance of being on the list again.”

Translink Chief Operating Officer, Philip O’Neill said: “Congratulations to all the 2014 Translink Ulster in Bloom winners and runners-up. You have produced such stunning plant and floral displays which delight so many people on a daily basis. This has been another year where we’ve seen new locations claim some of the top spots in their categories which is really encouraging and shows that Ulster in Bloom continues to capture the interest and involvement of councils and communities right across Northern Ireland.”

The Translink Ulster in Bloom Competition is organised by the Northern Ireland local Government Association (NILGA).

Alderman Arnold Hatch, President, Northern Ireland Local Government Association, said: “Today it is my pleasure, and privilege to represent the Northern Ireland Local Government Association and to convey our gracious thanks and congratulations to the Councils, the local ‘In-Bloom’ committees, the residents, the business community and the many people who supported, and actively participated in, the 2014 Translink Ulster in Bloom Competition.

“NILGA represents, promotes, sustains and improves local government on behalf of all 26 member councils and 11 emerging district councils, it is therefore fitting that we fully support and endorse Translink Ulster in Bloom across each individual council area now and in the
future.

“The Association is committed to adding true value to the local government sector, through initiatives like Ulster in Bloom.”
