Said his tag fell off during row with brother

A 34-year-old man was sentenced to four months in prison last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for damaging an electronic tag on December 27 last year.

He was Thomas David Finn, Burnview Terrace, Banbridge. The court heard that G4S, who owned the tag, reported that Finn had not been at his address for three days. At a later date the defendant reported to a police station and said that tag had dropped off during a struggle with his brother.

A barrister representing Finn said he was currently serving a sentence and his release date was July 1.

Deputy District Judge Brian Archer said Finn had previous convictions including eleven for criminal damage.

He was satisfied that a four month sentence was appropriate given the nature of the offending. This would add about one week on to his sentence.

Later in the court bail was set at £100 to appeal.
