Apprentices and instructors were nominated for the awards by NIE colleagues with around 90 nominations made.

Joe O’Mahony, NIE Managing Director, presented the awards at the lunch and said: “This was a great opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our apprentices and training team. I’d like to congratulate Ruth and all of our runners up and winners today. We have been developing our own apprentices for over forty years. They are at the heart of our business and the fact that many of our senior managers started as apprentices is testament to this.

“The nature of the work that NIE carries out on the electricity network is so unique and specialised, we strongly believe that apprenticeships are the best way to develop highly skilled, motivated and passionate employees. Today it has been my pleasure to present these awards that recognise the efforts of our apprentices who are the future of our business.”

Speaking at the Awards ceremony Ruth said: “This has been a great day and it means a lot to me to come as a runner up in this category. I’d like to thank everyone who nominated me and to my training instructors for all of their support. I really enjoy my apprenticeship and hope to complete as a Metering Operative later this year.”
