Sinn Féin Westminster Candidate Catherine Seeley has welcomed the news that Agricultural Minister Michelle O’Neill has spent over £16m in tackling rural poverty and social inclusion. Ms Seeley, who welcomed Minister O’Neill to a recent public meeting in Rathfriland, said rural poverty must be tackled.
Ms Seeley said,“I welcome the Minister’s comments relating to the over £16m invested into tackling rural poverty and bringing about social inclusion to rural communities.
“She has also shown her commitment by funding and working in partnership with other government Departments to bring about another £12m to fund projects aimed at tackling rural poverty.”
Cllr. Seeley added,
“Delivering services such as mains water and access to high speed broadband, as well as health and education programmes, are just some of the projects that are being implemented through this funding.”
She concluded, “I welcome the commitment by the Minister. We must all continue to tackle poverty and to bring equality to rural areas.”
