Respect your neighbour, University tells local students

THE University of Ulster, Coleraine has issued a letter to students living in the Triangle area to remind them of their 'responsibilities towards their neighbours'.

A spokesperson for the University also confirmed to The Coleraine Times last week that a special meeting has taken place between the Provost of Coleraine, Professor Robert Hutchinson and students living in the Mill Park area of Portstewart.

The meeting was designed to further underline to students the importance of respecting their neighbours.

“The University of Ulster and the University of Ulster Students’ Union are committed to promoting positive community relations between students and local residents living in the Triangle area," said a spokesperson.

“As part of the ongoing drive to educate and inform students’ of their responsibilities towards their neighbours and the need to respect other members of their community, the University in partnership with the Students’ Union distributed a letter to all students at the beginning of the new academic year welcoming them to the area but also highlighting this important issue.

“In addition, as part of this collaborative, pro-active approach adopted by the University, students living in the Mill Park area of Portstewart were invited to attend a meeting hosted by the Provost of Coleraine, Professor Robert Hutchinson.

“The purpose of the meeting was to further underline to students the importance of respecting their neighbours and to advise them of the types of problems that can arise if social activities exceed reasonable behaviour.

“The University of Ulster and the Students’ Union continue to work with a number of partners including the PSNI, Coleraine Borough Council and local residents groups to ensure that everyone living in area can do so safely and harmoniously.”
