Rehearsals are steaming ahead for Titanic

“The cast are rehearsing hard, props are being sought, lighting sound and sets finalized in order to do this new production, our patrons and loyal audiences justice,” explained chairperson Rosemary Kelly.

“It’s a lot of hard work taking on a UK premiere, but worth it in the end when we anchor in the Iveagh Movie Studios on opening night.

This new production by Belfast playwright Stewart Love gives a flavour of Belfast life in that era and subsequently on board the doomed ship. Though the show has a sad ending we are guaranteed a great many belly laughs according to director Leonard Anderson and his assistant Denise Bryson.

“You might not imagine that the show could be humorous due to the sad events we are all aware of, but Stewart has given the Titanic story a completely new and imaginative twist,” explained Assistant Director Denise.

“The first act is especially funny highlighting Belfast wit and customs.”

Titanic Serenade is a welcome step back into our heritage, indeed the Titanic is so steeped in our culture that the events surrounding its tragic demise are studied by P6/P7 children as part of the school curriculum.

Banbridge Musical Society is celebrating 71st year and going from strength to strength and this year it is definitely all hands on deck.

The show sets sail on Tuesday May 13 until Saturday May 17 and everyone, regardless of age, will be welcomed aboard.
