Rasharkin: Association 'fails to condemn attacks'

A PROTESTANT from Rasharkin says the Residents Association in the village has failed to condemn attacks on local Protestants.

The resident said: "The Residents Association said in last week's Times that they always want to reduce sectarian tensions and allow Rasharkin people to get on with their lives without sectarian harassment.

"It seems to me, as a Protestant resident, that this same Residents Association is not interested in the sectarian harassment/attacks on Protestant homes as I have never seen anything from the Residents Association condemning sectarian attacks on Protestant homes which does not happen to Catholic homes even during Ballymaconnelly's parade which they say is a danger to the Catholic residents.

"So surely this lets most people see that the sectarian attacks come from a small group of people from the Republican residents of this village.

"My feeling as a Protestant resident is that the Residents Association has only one agenda - that is to stop Ballymaconnelly's parade, not sectarian attacks on Rasharkin residents."
