Rangers players strip for cheeky ice bucket challenge

First Teamers Ryan Gregg, Chris Chambers, Willie Frazer, Jasy Hillis, Jonny Porter and Jonny O’Neill completed the Ice Bucket Challenge at training last week and nominated Seapatrick F.C. However this was no ordinary challenge as the men stripped off but covered their modesty with orange cones.

The players had originally agreed to donate 50p per like received for their video - not expecting it to be so popular. With it proving such a hit the club called a meeting to discuss the issue on Monday night.

Club Chairman, John Patterson said: “There will be a meeting with the Chair, Committee and players on Monday evening and a further announcement on the charity commitment will be made soon.”

Mr Patterson also explained that the Club has set up a JustGiving page where people can donate money towards the team’s Ice Bucket Challenge and all money will be going to Macmillan Cancer Care Charity. He commented: “The video has gone viral. We are delighted as the club prides itself on being a family club and we do try to help the community.

Mr Patterson challenged other football clubs in the area to do the challenege for charity too. He said: “We would like to see other clubs in the town take up the challenege.”

Meanwhile MLA Jo-Anne Dobson also took the plunge to raise money for Cancer Focus NI. She said: “I was nominated by my good friend Wendy McRoberts, sister Belinda Dale and by Downtown Radio’s Siobhan McGarry. I was delighted to see that Cancer Focus NI were receiving the support of so many people who are taking the Ice Bucket Challenge - I met with the Chief Executive Roisin Foster in my office last week and she up updated me on their fight to have a cancer drugs fund introduced into Northern Ireland to help local patients achieve the same access to drugs as those in England do. That is why I made my Ice Bucket donation to Cancer Focus NI.

“I think its a great way of supporting the vital work of this charity who, given the hundreds of emails I have received from local constituents on the issue of the Cancer Fund, are lobbying incredibly effectively on an issue which has my full support. “I nominated my colleague at Stormont Sandra Overend MLA, Lynda Bryans, Ross Hussey MLA, my good friend Julie Flaherty and two weathermen Frank Mitchell and Barra Best.”
