R driver was travelling at 76mph

A restricted driver who drove at 76mph was told if he came before a court again he would be losing his licence for six months.

Aryan Gabriel Mehrtash (19), Banbridge Road, Dromara, admitted an excess speed offence last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

He was fined £100, given four points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 12.30am on June 27 on the A1 dual carriageway near Dromore the defendant, an ‘R’ driver restricted to 45mph, was detected travelling at 76mph.

A barrister explained that the defendant had been at a concert with his girlfriend and was driving home.

He was overtaking slow traffic at the time.

Deputy District Judge Brian Archer said it was a very high speed for an ‘R’ driver.
