£4.4M to improve roads in Dungannon

Speaking ahead of this evening’s meeting between Roads Service and Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, the Minister said: “A wide range of road improvement and maintenance schemes is planned or already complete in the Dungannon district. These include the resurfacing of two sections of A29 Moy Road and a resurfacing scheme on the A4 in Clogher village, which included footway widening at the Cathedral.

“The priorities and constraints placed on funding levels by Budget 2010 means the programme of local transport and safety measures in 2012/13 and 2013/14 is under considerable pressure. However, while indications were that funding for resurfacing works would be very limited this year, a successful in year bid by my Department has improved this position considerably. I remain committed to delivering these important schemes and will continue to submit strong bids for additional funding.

“The autumn round of Council meetings is a timely opportunity for Councils to discuss potential schemes and priorities for incoming and future years.”

At the meeting, Senior Engineer, Gerry Hackett highlighted a number of improvement and maintenance schemes currently planned or progressed. He said: “I am pleased to note the significant carriageway resurfacing in the area including the recently completed resurfacing on Ballynakilly Road from Moor road towards M1, and asphalt surfacing work on Donaghmore Main Street.”

Mr Hackett also referred to a number of proposals for the incoming years which are currently programmed including the provision of Park and Ride / Share facilities at Stangmore and Tamnamore roundabouts and the erection of a vehicle safety restraint system on A4 Ballagh Road adjacent to Clogher Valley Free Presbyterian Primary School.
