£15k raised in memory of Stephen

MORE than £15,000 has been raised following a charity event in memory of Banbridge soldier Stephen McKee.

Family, friends and even people who didn’t know him turned up in their hundreds to honour his memory and donate to causes close to his heart.

All money raised will go to the Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund and the Royal Irish Band.

Stephen’s sisters Rebecca and Kelly McKee teamed up with Hayley Russell and Melissa Roke to organise a fundraising walk and social night last month. Knockiveagh councillor Glenn Barr, a close friend of Stephen’s, said the family were overwhelmed by the generosity shown by people who supported the event.

“I think it shows how well thought of Stephen was. There was a great turn-out on the day and I think even people who couldn’t make it maybe donated money too,” said Mr Barr.
