DUP Councillor and Assembly Candidate Carla Lockhart has said the Clanmil Housing Development on the Dromore Road, Banbridge is progressing well and planning should be granted in the coming weeks.

Speaking having met with Clanmil representatives in Banbridge Cllr Lockhart said: “Exciting new plans are in the final stages of the process. It would appear that there was a delay owing to additional site works needing carried out however, we have been assured that progress has been made and that the final stamp of approval is imminent.

“This is a superb investment in Banbridge totalling around £4million. Clanmil purchased this site some time ago and have worked with the NIHE and DSD to develop a scheme that best suits the needs of those on waiting lists for housing.

“I have plan available and would be happy to share them with anyone who would like to see more of the facilities going to be provided.

“With a deminshing pot of resources it is essential that partnership schemes of this nature progress. I believe this is one of the biggest social housing investments that the Banbridge area will see for some time. We are so fortunate that the site is being developed. This has been a vacant, gap site for many years and this will utterly transform the area in question.

Councillor Paul Greenfield also said: “This area has been derelict for too long. Development is essential and it is vital that everything is done to assist and encourage investment of this nature. “Social Housing is a great model if designed and shaped to meet the needs of the area and the local community. There is no doubt in my mind that this does just that and it will create much needed housing and facilities for people who require it.”
