Probation order for masturbating man

A 42-year-old man caught masturbating in Banbridge admitted that he got sexual gratification from watching young females leaving a local nightclub.

At last week’s local court (sitting in Newry) Earl Thomas Mahood was ordered to undergo three years of probation, with the additional condition that he complete a maximum of 240 hours on a sex offenders’ programme.

Mahood, of Windsor Close, Waringstown, was spotted by a mobile police patrol at Lurgan Road at around 1.40am on July 26.

He was standing masturbating in full view close to Holy Trinity church. His trousers were down and his t-shirt was off and Mahood was some 20 yards away from a small group of females.

He made off in the direction of Church Square and was stopped by police officers, who seized a plastic bag containing one glove, a bar of soap and a face cloth.

Mahood admitted to police that he got sexual gratification by watching young females leaving the Coach.

He was subsequently charged with indecent behaviour.

Magistrate Paul Copeland said it was clear that Mahood has issues which required to be addressed.

Defence solicitor, Mr Kennedy said his client had discussed the issue with probation and was keen to get help.

The RM said he took the view that the imposition of a community based sentence was appropriate.
