A POYNTZPASS man is celebrating after receiving the award of Best Packaging Student of the Year.

Paul Linden recently attended the Starpack awards in Birmingham to receive the award from TV celebrity and author Tony Hawks.

Starpack has been running since 1960 and is the premier UK annual award scheme which recognizes innovation in packaging design and technology. Its aim is to raise packaging standards in the UK by rewarding and encouraging creativity.

To this end Paul, who achieved the best marks worldwide in The Institute of Packaging Diploma in Packaging Technology examinations, received a trophy and a prize at the Starpack awards ceremony.

Paul who is employed by Moy Park, Northern Ireland's largest food processing company studied on the Diploma in Packaging Technology part time at College of Agriculture Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) Loughry Campus.

And both Moy Park and Loughry are delighted with Paul's achievement.

Ron Gardiner, lecturer at Loughry said: "Paul worked exceptionally hard for this achievement. On a professional note I am delighted that a student from the Northern Ireland Food Industry has won this international accolade.

"It demonstrates the competitive edge that the people of Northern Ireland can potentially offer local businesses operating in a global marketplace."
