‘Portrush Partnership’ wants new era for resort

RESIDENTS and businesses have come together in Portrush in the newly-formed Portrush Partnership to represent the interests of the entire community and foster its active involvement in the future of Northern Ireland’s premier resort.

The vision is to enhance the image of Portrush, promote the town and engage the whole community in initiatives that will benefit all.

Last month initial public meetings were held in Ground, Portrush, to gauge local interest and identify issues to be addressed. These were well attended by a diverse cross-section of the community, both residents and traders.

During the second meeting, group aims and objectives were agreed and a committee elected that represents the community, local traders and the town’s young people.

Committee members are Conn Mulvenna (Chair), David Alexander (Vice Chair), Bernie Taylor (Treasurer), Gillian Condell (Secretary), Lorraine Russell (Vice Secretary), Aaron Chambers, Colette Donaghy, James Davies, Anne Hagan, Peter Nash, Janice Stewart, Rosie Stewart and Sam Swart.

The Partnership Committee will engage with local elected representatives, Council officers, Government departments and statutory agencies, lobby on issues that impact on the town, and raise funds for community projects. It will also work alongside the ‘Paint Portrush Scheme’ to continue this very welcome development to brighten the town.

It is now discussing the possibility of organising various community activities, and suggestions under consideration include a Family Fun Day, a fashion show, an exhibition of youth art, a ‘Wellness’ evening, a floral initiative, and a pub quiz. All ideas for potential projects, as well as issues or comments, are welcome.

A website and a Facebook page are also being developed and should be up and running soon.

Anyone with an interest in Portrush is encouraged to join this new and exciting development. Membership forms can be obtained by e-mailing [email protected] or by collection from Blue Moon, 18 Main Street, Portrush.

Details of the next public meeting will be publicised when arrangements are finalised.

The Portrush Partnership would like to thank all those who have given support and financial contributions. It would also like to thank Christine Alexander and Jane McAlpin for their innovative ‘Paint Portrush’ scheme, which is already generating a very positive response from the community and visitors alike.

Thanks are also due to James Davies for his vision of a community united as it goes into the future.

Last, but not least, the Partnership would like to extend congratulations to Rory Mc Ilroy, Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke on their recent world successes.

Graeme and Darren merit a very special ‘thank you’ for the positive media coverage they have brought to Portrush and the Royal Portrush Golf Club. The Portrush Partnership welcomes and fully supports the campaign to have both the Irish Open and The Open Golf Championships held at Portrush.
