A debate will take place in the House of Commons today, from 11.30am.

MPs will debate the motion that Islamic State (also known as ISIL, IS and ISIS) poses a “direct threat” to the United Kingdom, and that states should take “all necessary measures” to prevent terrorist action by the group.

The motion continues to say that the Government will not deploy UK troops in ground combat operations but, if agreed, would condone “military action, specifically airstirkes, exclusively against ISIL in Syria”.
