McCallister ‘overwhelmed’ by trust placed in him

NEWLY-elected South Down MLA John McCallister has thanked everyone who placed their trust in him and helped return him to Stormont for another four years.

An ecstatic Mr McCallister said he was overwhelmed by Saturday’s annoucement when he claimed the fourth of six seats in South Down.

“It was always going to be a tight seat to hold, and despite boundary changes and a low turn out, I polled exceptionally well,” said Mr McCallister.

“I want to thank everyone who gave me their first preferences and of course everyone who transferred. I am honoured and privileged to serve the people of South Down and I pledge to continue working tirelessly for everyone.

“This was a very long and tiring campaign and an even longer and stressful counting process. However, the worry and stress was worth it all and now I look forward to doing what I do best - helping others.”
