Causby expected to take top post of new supercouncil

DUP councillor Darryn Causby is tipped to be the first chairperson of the new Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon supercouncil.

The ABC District Council is set to meet for its first Annual General Meeting tonight in Craigavon.

Cllr Causby is already the presiding chair with Sinn Fein’s Darren McNally from Armagh acting as Vice-Chair.

It is expected that Cllr McNally will also be elected as the first Vice Chair of the new Council.

It marks the beginning of a new era as three councils merge to form the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District Council.

Cllr Causby lost out in the Craigavon Mayoral election last year as Ulster Unionist Colin McCusker took the top post with Sinn Fein’s Catherine Seeley elected as deputy mayor.

The DUP, with 13 of the 41 members, have first choice and are expected to nominated Causby as Chair at tonight’s meeting at the Civic Centre in Craigavon.
