Politicians praise Academy for Christmas craft fair

Exhibitors, supporters and members of Banbridge Academy Association have been praised following Saturday morning's annual Christmas craft fair.

This year the fair was aimed at raising money for Marie Curie a much loved charity and one that has touched the lives of so many in their hour of need.

Crowds flocked to the event in the school, including local Upper Bann MP David Simpson, and MLAs Joanne Dobson and Carla Lockhart, who were quick to praise the organisers and supporters of the fair.

Jo-Anne Dobson MLA said: “Every year the members of the Association work so hard to support the school and their annual Craft Fair is a central part of that important work. I know that a considerable amount of work takes place in the background to prepare for this annual event and that was evident to see on Saturday morning. I send my grateful thanks to those who, in any way, support the school and help to make this event possible. It was lovely to spend time among the colourful and vibrant festive displays of local arts and crafts and to see so many people coming along to support the school.

“I commend the Association for ensuring that a memory tree was available in the Hall to allow people to spend some quiet time thinking of and remembering someone who lit up so many of our lives.

“Louise Peacock is dearly missed by so many people especially within the Academy Association and School she worked so hard to support.

“I was privileged to know Louise as a friend and to love her – and always will.

“Well done to everyone involved, especially Chairperson Tracey McKee, the members of the BAA, staff and pupils for all of their hard work.”

Speaking following the craft fair Carla Lockhart MLA said: “This was another hugely successful event organised by the parents involved in the Banbridge Academy Association. There was a lovely atmosphere in the school with many crafters turning out to make the day a success.

“I was also very impressed with the number of young enterprise students from the school who were there selling their products and making their enterprise a success.

“It was great to see people enjoying not only the crafts but also participating in the raffle, and availing of the beautiful eatables which were provided by BAA.”
