Police pledge clampdown on Toome ‘boy racers’

Following concerns raised by Sinn Fein councillor Peter Bateson, Police said they are determined to tackle anti-social driving in Toome.

Calling for “so-called boy racers who are bringing great danger to the road network adjacent to The Elk to desist immediately before a tragedy occurs”, Cllr Bateson said: “It is well past the time for this reckless anti-community activity to stop.”

PC Shona Holmes added: “We are aware of ongoing issues surrounding so-called ‘boy racers’ in and around Toome and are working to address this.

“We are appealing to young drivers to act responsibly when in control of a car.

“Those who engage in these activities may regard them as ‘fun’, but this [view] is not shared by the people who have to endure this type of selfish behaviour.”
